Shareware is software that you can try before you buy.

  A more accurate description for shareware is "trialware", which actually describes what the user of the software is permitted to do, ie to trial the software to see if it suits their intended purpose. By downloading shareware ( trialware ) you agree to remove the software from any computer it has been installed to if you are not going to purchase it. Software takes a LOT of work and knowledge to create and the authors deserve to be financially compensated for their efforts. If you download shareware ( trialware ) and don't pay for it when you should, you are reducing the authors ability to continue the development of that software. Oh, and technically you are stealing..
